This post is part of an ongoing series where I’ve crafted liturgies from some of the Psalms that have deeply resonated with me throughout the year. May these words bring you peace, healing, and a renewed sense of God’s presence in your life.
I’m knitted together
There are days when I feel invisible,
As if my presence in this world is like a fleeting whisper,
Quiet and unnoticeable.
But in the secret place, O Lord,
In truth, I can sing—
Hallelujah!
For You, O Lord, You know me.
You know me deeply, completely,
In ways that no human could fathom.
You know the way I sit in coffee shop lounge chairs,
My legs crossed, elbows resting on my knees,
Lost in thought, as the world hums around me.
You know the way I look when I rise—
Disheveled, hair tangled, eyes heavy.
You know the rush of my thoughts,
Sometimes flowing clear like a stream,
Other times muddled, tangled in a current of confusion.
You know every word I speak—
The ones utter aloud,
And the ones whisper in silence,
There is nothing concealed from You, Lord.
Nothing.
And yet, I struggle to grasp the full measure
Of Your love for me.
To write about it, to capture its magnitude—
It feels like trying to weave something beautiful
Out of fraying threads,
A futile effort to grasp the infinite in words.
I think of my husband’s grandmother, His Obachan
How she spends hour upon hour with her needles,
Knitting, stitch by careful stitch—
Hats, scarves, mittens, blankets,
Each creation a labor of love.
To me, her needlework is noble work,
In it, I see a reflection of You, O Lord—
How You knit me together,
In the secret places of the earth,
Long before I took my first breath.
You wove me with intention,
With purpose, with care.
Every part of me shaped by Your hands,
Each strand of my being a testament to Your love.
And what’s more, Lord,
Your thoughts about me are beyond measure,
More numerous than the grains of sand
On the shores of the endless sea.
All I can do in response is cry out,
"Know me, Lord. Know me deeper,
More intimately than I know myself.
Test my heart, search my thoughts,
And rid me of anything that does not align with You."
Lead me, O Lord,
Lead me in the way that is everlasting.
Love this!! 🥰
Phew! 😮💨😩🙌🏾 This is mean to be savored — so deep and rich that I need to reread it again. So good, Kathy!
